Pat came to America in 1973, with her husband Karl. Grace and Tom MacGillivray followed in 1980. Since then, the GRATOM kennel name has been seen sparingly, but successfully in the show ring, with Pugs, Boston Terriers and Brussels Griffons, our first loves, as well as with Chihuahuas, our last love. The first pet (and SHOW of course) Chihuahua was BIS. Ch. Sundowner Marcasite, purchased from SUNDOWNER kennels in England.
We try to stay active in supporting the Houston Chihuahua Club & the Greater Humble Area Kennel Club. There are two Houston Chihuahua Club shows currently on the AKC schedule for 2001. There was a specialty on 03/16/2001 at Houston Farm & Ranch Club in Houston,TX. The other Houston Chihuahua Club Specialty will have sweeps as well & will take place at the Astrohall in Houston on 7/19/2001. The Greater Humble Area Kennel Club shows are all breed and will take place on October 6-7, 2001.
GRATOM does not breed on a large scale. We breed occasionally striving to improve the Chihuahua with every GRATOM breeding. Since we do not breed often and Chihuahuas have small litters, we do not often have dogs available. However, when we do, any available Chihuahuas will be noted on our webpage - pets are spayed or neutered before placement or are sold with limited registration and a spay/neuter contract. Where our puppies and, occasionally our adults, go is our first responsibility. Not everyone who wants a GRATOM puppy gets one. We take our responsibilities very seriously in an effort to ensure every home for one of ours is their final home.
